Mark A. Thompson, Ph.D. serves as the fifth President of Wentworth Institute of Technology, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a collaborative leadership style. Prior to joining Wentworth, Thompson held key academic leadership roles at several institutions, most recently serving as Provost & Executive Vice President at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
Thompson's leadership has propelled Wentworth Institute of Technology toward a significant and remarkable transformation. This progress has been guided by Thompson’s initiation of the university’s most comprehensive strategic planning process to date. This endeavor resulted in a bold and transformative strategic plan that prioritizes inclusive excellence, high-value learning, a transformative student experience, and next-generation partnerships.
Recognizing the importance of leadership, Thompson has successfully recruited a highly skilled team to support Wentworth’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives. His emphasis on assembling a talented leadership cohort underscores his commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and academic success.
In addition to strategic planning and leadership development, Thompson has championed an ambitious 10-year Institutional Master Plan aimed at revitalizing Wentworth’s physical campus environment. Furthermore, Wentworth’s strategic investments in student support services and facilities have yielded tangible results, driving increases in student retention and success rates. His proactive approach to enhancing student resources underscores his dedication to ensuring that every Wentworth student thrives academically and personally.
