  • Wentworth’s Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program balances theory, simulation, and laboratory exercises, giving students the advanced skills and knowledge needed to model, analyze, design, and realize physical systems, components, and processes. Students are expected to enter the program having obtained a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering.

    Flexibility

    The program is designed with flexibility in mind. Students may enroll full or part-time and take coursework in-person or synchronously online as needed. Students may also opt for the thesis or non-thesis (master project) track.

    Earn Your Degree Quickly

    Wentworth has state-of-the-art facilities for our students to access. Including separate labs for Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Materials Science, Additive Manufacturing, Manufacturing, Fluids, and a general project laboratory.

    STEM Program Designation

    Wentworth’s Mechanical Engineering program has a federal STEM designation, which provides a potential 24-month Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension for international students studying on an F-1 visa, allowing students to work for a total of three years in the United States upon graduation.

    The program has both thesis and non-thesis option with 31 required credit hours. Either option has the students undertake an individualized engineering development experience, either as a two-course Thesis, or a one-course Master Project. All students are required to complete a one-credit Professional Perspectives course to increase exposure to recent developments and to aspects of professionalism.  The course requirements to complete the MSME degree are shown in this curriculum table. Students must complete the course requirements with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, following Wentworth graduate school policies.

4+1 Option

Current Wentworth undergraduates can complete their degree in 2 semesters by taking two graduate level technical electives during their undergraduate study. Full-time students are eligible for merit scholarship rollover, and part-time may receive an alumni scholarship.
