Document Authentication & Apostille

Notary Requests require a minimum of 10 days to process. No walk-in or deviations from the required lead time will be honored.

Alumni who plan to work abroad, apply for visas, or return to their home country may be required to produce documentation certifying the degree(s) or diploma(s) earned at Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Registrar’s Office can provide a letter of Degree or Diploma Authentication validated by a Notary Public; this serves to authenticate the authority of Wentworth to produce such documents. This service requires a minimum of 10 business days from the date of the request. We cannot honor Notary walk-in requests.

Apostille

Some receiving countries may require an apostille in addition to the notarized documents provided by Wentworth. In some cases, alumni may request an apostille that requires the documents, such as a transcript or diploma, to be authenticated by a designated governmental authority, as approved by the Hague Convention. It is the responsibility of the requestor to determine if an apostille is necessary and determine the best way to have an apostille produced. The Massachusetts Secretary of State can produce apostilles, as can district courts. Please refer to this page for a full list of US authorities authorized to issue apostilles. We are unable to submit documentation on your behalf.

More information on apostilles and the apostille process can be found on the Hague Convention website as well as the website for the US Department of State Office of Authentications.

Degree/Diploma Authentication

The Letter of Degree/Diploma Authentication contains the following information:

  • the degree recipient's name
  • the degree(s) earned
  • the date(s) of degree confirmation
  • the official signature of a Registrar's Office staff member
  • notarization by a Notary Public with an active commission from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Once this process is completed, the document(s) are returned to the requestor or the requestor's personal designee.

You may request this letter by email to registrar@wit.edu. At a minimum, your request must include your name, the year you graduated from Wentworth, and the address to which you would like the letter sent. Please allow 10 business days to fulfill your request.

If you are required to produce an official notarized transcript and/or diploma, please complete the request through Parchment. Alternatively, you may attach a scanned copy of your transcript or diploma to your request via email.
