Design Materials Fund Event Promotes Equity in Design
Wentworth Institute of Technology hosted "Designing the Future: Diversity, Representation, and Innovation in Architecture and Design" last month. The event aimed to underscore the importance of diversity and representation within the architecture industry.
In his opening remarks, Wentworth President Mark A. Thompson emphasized the institution's commitment to inclusivity, stating, "At Wentworth, Inclusive Excellence is more than a guiding principle—it is the first of four pillars that guide our strategic plan." He highlighted the importance of the Design Materials Fund, a collaboration with DiMella Shaffer, in "breaking down barriers and empowering underrepresented students to thrive in the architecture and design professions."
By providing financial support to those in need, this fund equips students with the essential resources to excel in their academic pursuits at Wentworth. This is not only a matter of equity but also a strategic investment for the future of the STEM and design industries, which benefit from the rich, varied insights and enhanced problem-solving abilities that come with a diverse workforce.
