Message from the Provost

I am honored to serve as Provost and Executive Vice President at Wentworth Institute of Technology. With a culture rooted in student success, academic excellence, and institutional impact, Wentworth stands as a forward-thinking, industry-connected university - where learning is transformative, experiential, and continuously evolving to meet the needs of the future. In a rapidly changing society and evolving industries, we remain true to our mission: empowering learners with the skills they need to thrive in the global marketplace.
Founded in response to the skills gap brought about by the Industrial Revolution, Wentworth has come full circle. Today, we again find ourselves addressing a new skills gap across the very fields that define our academic portfolio. Over the past several years, we have built a strong foundation for advancing high-value learning - leveraging our strengths in engineering, the built environment, design, and technology to create distinctive, interdisciplinary programs.
Our investments in experiential learning - through co-ops, project-based coursework, and expanded maker spaces - reinforce our hands-on, industry-aligned education model. This approach prepares students to lead in rapidly evolving fields. Faculty and staff embrace the Teacher-Scholar model, where research, scholarship, and teaching are seamlessly integrated to drive academic excellence.
Wentworth is consistently recognized in national and regional rankings for its high return on investment and the earning power of its alumni. Our location in Boston - a vibrant hub of academic, cultural, and economic opportunity - further enriches our students’ experiences. Here, they are taught by dedicated faculty who inspire critical thinking, lifelong learning, and a commitment to positive change.
The future holds enormous promise. Wentworth is well-positioned to be nationally recognized as a model institution for high-value, hands-on education - integrating engineering, architecture, design, and technology with emerging fields such as AI, sustainability, and smart infrastructure. Our graduates will be known not only for their technical expertise but also for their ability to think across disciplines, address complex global challenges, and lead with innovation and entrepreneurial mindset.
I look forward to all we will accomplish together.
Warm Regards,
Sophia A. Maggelakis, Ph.D.
