Wentworth Faculty Honored by Society of Civil Engineers at 175th Event
Two Wentworth Institute of Technology faculty members will be honored by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers next week when they host their 175th anniversary awards dinner.
Professor Gautham Das will receive the 2024 College Educator Award, which is presented to a member of the academic community who inspires and encourages civil engineering students through exceptional teaching and mentorship in the New England area.
In addition, Professor Cristina Cosma from the Construction Management Program will receive the Citizen Engineer Award from the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. The award is presented to a BSCES member or registered professional engineer for outstanding public involvement in local or national legislation, education (at any level), non-profit volunteer organizations, community activities, or similar activities improving the image of ASCE, BSCES and the civil engineering profession.
With a career spanning over two decades, Das is the current Editor in Chief of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Practice Journal. Serving as a professor at Wentworth since 2008, he also held the role of treasurer for the American Federation of Teachers, Wentworth Chapter Local 2403. Das’ professional journey includes roles including vice president at Anjanadri Construction in Bangalore, senior environmental engineer at Parsons Corporation, and various academic and engineering positions in Charlotte, N.C. The president of DasMore Solutions, he has a PhD in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems and a Master of Science in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from RV College of Engineering.
Cosma has taught at Wentworth for nearly 20 years. She is a Fulbright scholar and received a teaching award from the Mechanical Contractors Association. She previously worked at Granite Construction, as well as Technical University of Iasi in Romania. She holds a PhD and Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from University of Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Technical University of Iasi.
The BSCES dinner takes place June 27 in Cambridge and will recognize volunteer leaders, present annual awards, and introduce their newest honorary members. Former Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Frederick P. Salvucci will deliver the keynote speech on “Infrastructure Investment: Social and Political Leadership and the Critical Role of Engineers.”
