Durga Suresh-Menon has been named the new dean of the School of Computing and Data Science at Wentworth Institute of Technology. 

Currently the dean of Graduate Education, Suresh-Menon will assume her new role officially on June 1. 

“I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside my colleagues again,” said Suresh-Menon, who formerly taught Wentworth classes related to computing. “In many ways, it feels like I’m coming home to the place where I taught for 18 years.” 

Wentworth Institute of Technology President Mark A. Thompson has written an op-ed for University Business that discusses the student experience and why taking the harder path is often the correct path. 

Our students faced many unexpected challenges this year, but their perseverance and commitment to their education has inspired us all. To honor their hard work, Team #WentWorthIt, a group of dedicated Wentworth community members, will lace up their sneakers and log miles to raise money and awareness for the Student Emergency Fund. 

A new report cites Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Center for Community and Learning Partnership’s (CLP) work as a model example for providing early college access to underserved local students.

Recently published by MassINC and State Street, Early College as a Force for Equity in the Post-Pandemic Era examines the disparity between students who are from low-income households and those who are not, with students in the former group two-and-a-half times less likely to complete a college degree.

The Washington Post has published an opinion piece entitled “Solving homelessness requires getting the problem right” by Wentworth Institute of Technology Associate Professor Ella Howard.

A group of women Industrial Design students has created an imaginative series of masks and their work is now viewable at the Schumann Library.  

At Wentworth, we are dedicated to providing a hands-on education in the safest possible way. During the last year, we implemented numerous protocols to enable a return to campus and offer in-person instruction to students while preventing significant outbreaks of COVID-19. 

In a few short words, President Mark Thompson summarized much of what those gathered for Spring Commencement were also thinking. 

“It has taken a lot to arrive at this day, but you all made it happen, and I could not be prouder of you right now,” he said to graduates during ceremonies held this past weekend.

The AGC Education and Research Foundation has given the Wentworth CM Club its 2020 Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year Award. This is awarded to only the most active and dedicated student chapters throughout the country.

A virtual Student Chapter Summit on April 23 recognized award winners and featured presentations by the 2020 Outstanding Student Chapter Contest winners. 

For Michael Martinez, speaking at Saturday’s Commencement ceremony is a chance to send a positive message to his class and encourage others to work toward their dreams.  

When she speaks to her class on Saturday, Sarah Williamson will deliver the first in-person student address to a Boston-area university commencement ceremony since early 2020.  

Graduate students in Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Master of Architecture program were recognized for excellence in the Affordable Housing Development Competition on Tuesday night.  

The Technology Project Management Seminar class at Wentworth Institute of Technology raised $3,000 for the YMCA of Greater Boston and its Food Insecurity program.  

Wentworth Institute of Technology will be the first university in the Boston area to host on-campus commencement ceremonies for the Spring 2021 season.  

After halting in-person events last year due to the pandemic, Wentworth officials are looking forward to welcoming graduates from the Classes of 2020 and 2021 in a trio of events during the weekend of May 1 and 2.

Wentworth Institute of Technology Provost and Senior Vice President Ian Lapp will join thought leaders from across the globe to mark the 100-year anniversary of the establishment of the Escuela de Salud Pública de México (The School of Public Health Mexico), part of the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (National Institute of Public Health).

The Wentworth Institute of Technology chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers has received the organization’s 2021 Certificate of Commendation.
