Celebrating Indigenous Heritage Month at Wentworth 2024!

Wentworth Institute of Technology honors Indigenous Heritage Month this November, dedicating time to recognize and respect the deep cultural roots, histories, and invaluable contributions of Indigenous peoples across North America. This month serves as a crucial reminder of the resilience, wisdom, and diverse traditions Indigenous communities bring to our society, often in the face of historical and ongoing challenges. At Wentworth, we acknowledge the enduring impact of these communities, whose presence and influence have helped shape our world in countless, often unacknowledged ways.

At Wentworth, we are committed to creating a campus environment that does more than celebrate the heritage of diverse communities; we work to build an inclusive space where Indigenous students, faculty, and staff feel respected, supported, and empowered. We believe in fostering a culture that actively promotes understanding and accountability, encouraging meaningful engagement with Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. This commitment drives us to not only honor diversity but to deepen our shared responsibility for advancing equity and respect for all.

Diversity, equity and inclusion affects all people, and everyone should be invested in understanding why. We are all affected because at the end of the day, we are at our best when every member of our community can live as their best selves. The very heart of diversity, equity and inclusion is basic respect and a sense of belonging.

Inclusive Excellence

Inclusive Excellence means actively and intentionally cultivating a diverse and culturally competent institution where each member has the opportunity and support to reach their full potential and make contributions to our campus community and beyond. Inclusive Excellence is at the center of Wentworth's new strategic plan to which everyone is accountable.

WIT Diversity Timeline

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Schumann Library & Learning Commons has partnered to capture significant moments in Wentworth's history that have contributed to campus life related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In order to grow as an inclusive community, we must get to know our history, celebrate our present, and understand what we need to do to strengthen our future.
